Competency Development

There is a lot of buzz in the business world around competencies.  What are they?  How can having them impact an organization?

Ulrich defined competency as knowledge, skill or ability of employees relevant for organizational performance.

At CRD we take the mystique out of developing Competencies or standards of performance for companies.

Our process allows you to identify the standards and behaviors or sets of behaviors that define high performance in a particular work function, position or job family.  Establishing these standards for performance can be used in the following internal processes:

  • Hiring
  • Performance management
  • Coaching

The Process we use is a combination of prepared questions from participants and an interactive workshop where the competencies or standards are identified, prioritized and defined.  In about three hours the competencies for one job or work function are defined!

Specific internal processes and tools that competencies should be incorporated into include:

Interviewing Guides, Interviewer Forms, Performance Management documents, and Coaching Documents
